What is Blunder Base?

Blunder Base is a Software that converts a set of eXtreme Gammon® position files (ending in .xgp) into Anki cards.

Each Anki card has a front side and a back side:

The front side shows the position on the board and asks for a cube decision or how to play a certain roll.

The back side shows the best answer to the question and lists alternative answers with their equity losses, the move actually played at the table and some additional information.

How do I use Blunder Base?

Short summary (see this page for detailed explanations):

  1. Download a game or match you played on your favorite backgammon site and load it into eXtreme Gammon®.
  2. Go through your moves and cube decisions step by step and save the ones where you miserably failed (i.e. your blunders 😉) in a separate .xgp file.
  3. Create an Anki import from your .xgp files using the Blunder Base software.
  4. Import the file into your Anki software or into Anki Web.
  5. Start learning from your blunders by memorizing your Anki cards.

What do I need to use Blunder Base?

  • A Windows computer (Mac and Linux are currently not supported, but Windows emulators may work).
  • An installation of the Anki software.
  • Optional, if you want to use your Anki cards on your smart phone as well, an Anki Web account and the corresponding Anki app on your smart phone.
  • An installation of the Blunder Base software.
